Will the transmission out of a
1999 Ford Taurus interchange
with a 1999 ford Mercury

The AX4N transmission, an improved version of the AXOD transmission, was used in the 1994 to 2007 Ford Taurus and 1994 to 2005 Mercury Sable; including other cars built by Ford Motor Company. Also, it was used in the 1996 to 1999 Ford Taurus, My answer is based on the beginning of your question that mentions the Ford Taurus, you do not say if the Mercury is a Sable. The transmission will fit only if the Mercury is a Sable.

The transmission also has to be against the same motor, ie, 3.0 V6 or 3.8; whether its in the Taurus of the Sable
