Asked by Williamr1295 Aug 21, 2014 at 10:17 PM about the 2005 Lincoln LS V8 Sport

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My vehicle started to over heat and then reduced the power to where I could almost not
drive it. Took it into AutoZone and had the codes read and got these:

Codes: P1299, P0355, P0305, P0316, & P1285

All help would be much appreciated!!!

355 & 305 deal with number five cylinder miss fire. Possibly bad coil or loose connection to coil. Check out above links. The 355 code probably caused the 305 code so check the 355 link above for possible causes and solutions.

http://engine-codes.com/p1299_ford.html -- p1299 is for the overheating. Check coolant level first. If low refill and inspect cooling system for leaks.

I filled the coolant on Sunday and it still is overheating. No leaks. Any other suggestions to check by chance? Should I replace the water pump and if so where is it and how do I replace it?

But first check water pump weep hole for evidence of leaking. Leaking weep hole would indicate bad water pump. Would hate for you to change it and still have same issue. Does it only over heat in city driving but cool down on the highway? If so check for proper fan operation. Are you sure coolant level is full? Is white smoke coming out exhaust ? Does oil look like milkshake? If so to either its a head gasket issue.

Checked oil and it looked good. Just a little low, added 2 quarts. The coolant is full i added about 2 quarts to it. It overheats both in the city and on the highway. Big thanks for your help on this.

With where your thermostat is located I would not worry so much about checking it. I would plan on replacing it when you change out the water pump. IMO anyways.
