2004 Lincoln Aviator

Asked by smmoore07 Apr 25, 2016 at 04:15 PM about the 2004 Lincoln Aviator Luxury AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Battery dies when rear gate is opened for just a few minutes.  Battery tests
good and no other problems except when rear gate is opened to load or
unload, even for just a few minutes.  Jump it with cables and all is fine again.
Help please.

Batteries have been tested and checked and are all OK. Batteries actually were replaced when this began happening to make sure they were OK. Nothing else drains the battery but the back gate (Hatch). It can only be open for a few minutes and the battery dies. Would love to know how to correct this.

Found that the light on the rear hatch was extremely hot as soon as the hatch was opened. Removed the light and now the battery doesn't die when the hatch is opened for any length of time. Don't know what the wiring problem is, but the battery problem has been solved and I'm ok with that.
