Suggest getting a Haynes manual for your vehicle which will tell you everything you need to know. There are three types of tensioners, one is a bolt-on, where a pulley bolted to the block and with an adjusting bolt behind it is used to tension the belt; the second is an automatic tensioner, where a spring-loaded pulley can be turned with a breaker bar to relieve tension and allow a belt to be removed or installed, and the third, older-style is where a bolt-on component like the alternator is loosened, allowed to swing down, and then brought up tight to allow the belt to tension. I'm not sure which yours has off the top of my head. Haynes manual will tell you.
