02 continental rear air bag replacement

Asked by GuruTSXXB Jun 30, 2018 at 10:05 AM about the 2002 Lincoln Continental FWD

Question type: General

So I was looking online to save a dollar to purchase
airbags for the rear on an 02 Continental
everything I am finding is non self leveling air bags
my question is does the solenoid that plug into the
airbag is that what makes it self-leveling can I just
purchase two air bags that are not self-leveling
replace the airbags and use the solenoid that was
in the car

I replaced the airbags on my '97 continental last fall, 2017. The airbags look the same on a '02. You can not use the air valves without having the matching port on the air bags. You could probably find aftermarket inline valves that might work, but by the time you spend the extra money, you're up to the cost of the original style airbags anyway. I found replacing with the original style airbags was even cheaper than getting a conversion kit. Plus I keep the original air ride functionality. Good luck.

Guru TR228. My 1997 Continental with 70,000 miles is in perfect condition except that after a period of usage, It is uneven. The right side back-end is lower and even after driving it for a few miles it does not levels. Do you recommend replacing both air bags? Any idea of the cost? Thank you.
