why wont my navigator start?

Asked by ronwhite78 Feb 28, 2016 at 01:04 PM about the 2000 Lincoln Navigator 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 Lincoln navigator with a 5.4L V8. On way home it died
on me and won't start. It will just turn over and does not try to fire at
all. And when it turns over it makes a weird high pitch whining sound.
What could cause this ?  I watched as it was cranked over and engine
is turning over because all the pulleys are turning.

I've heard it could be the anti theft system, the timing chain or the fuel pump.

I have the same trouble , I put a new fuel pump and check for spark , and it has fuel when I put it on cause it comes out the fuel pressure regulator with no problem when I took it off . I think it's the Anti Theft system because the theft light keep flashing and won't go off until after a couple of minutes

ust stick your key in the driver side door and lock it then unlock it once you did this them try starting your truck it usually shuts off the anti theft. Note that you don't need to get out of the truck to do this just roll down your window! Also if you have a keyless entry while sitting in your truck just hold the keyless remote press lock then unlock and this should also disable the anti theft system.

Y'all. I have a 2003 Nav which stopped cranking last year and stayed at my mechanics for 8 months. Same problem. He could not figure out how to repair it. I know this is going to sound crazy but open your fuse panel and at the very top you'll see 3 relays. ( They are the medium rectangular ones about an inch X 1/2 inch) Take out the one on the left and the one on the right and switch them. Or you can buy new ones for like 13 bucks apiece. I found this last year on Google, went to my mechanics shop, did it and it cranked right up. Good luck and I hope this gets your truck going again.
