O2 sensor error and location of the sensors

Asked by Bob Aug 17, 2022 at 06:27 PM about the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Crew Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm getting a P0174 system to lean and a P2098 post catalyst fuel trim system
too lean. My question is would this be an issue with the downline sensor or
upline?

Before you replace either oxygen sensor, verify the lean condition. You might have a vacuum leak or a fuel system problem such as faulty fuel injectors, failing fuel pump, or possibly a bad fuel pressure regulator. With both oxygen sensors involved it could even be an exhaust leak pulling outside air into the exhaust system past the oxygen sensors. Hope that helps! Jim

Right tackle the P0174 first, clear the codes and run the drivetime protocol and see if the P2098 code returns.
