4.7 Dodge remanufactured engine
Asked by Bob Apr 23, 2018 at 05:12 PM about the 2008 Dodge RAM 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab RWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
4.7 reman 4.7 at 1000 mile oil change was
knocking. Applied for warranty exchange and was
approved. New engine arrived and old one sent
back. Warranty denied because left hand pistons
were scored, possible cause fuel wash or plugged
cat converter. During the 1000 miles no loss of
power or panel lights. Thoughts questions?
Thanks in advance!

You remember that game you used to play as kids called "chicken"??? That's EXACTLY what's goin' on here based on your description. This isn't a thought you might associate with traditional engine diagnostics AND WHILE it's always possible that "fuel wash" is the cause...it's also possible that if their aunt had a beard she'd be their uncle. Bottom line, they can prolly no more "prove" their theory, than you can deny it. In my book, most rebuilders would do just about anything to have to keep from eating the cost of a warrantied engine. Did you install it or did a garage? CHALLENGE their assertion before proceeding further. Read your warranty thoroughly and threaten any legal action you can possibly afford to, both time and money wise. I'm just spitballin' here, but you gotta make it so expensive and time consuming for them to deny your warranty claim that they'll just give up n say uncle...punn intended.
Thank you for your response. I actually had one of top rated shops in the area install the engine and it was my brother with 35 yrs experience do it! I told the rebuilder that I was contacting a lawyer, BBB, NYS Attorney General and I didn't take their calls for 2 days. Today they said they were going to take care of it, we'll see.
