Bad grinding noise in front end, any ideas?

Asked by Holly Dec 27, 2014 at 11:17 PM about the 2005 Mazda MAZDA6 4 Dr s Sport Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2005 mazda 6 has loud grinding noises coming from front
left side of car. Can feel friction and vibration in steering
wheel and gas pedal when driving. Noise increases and
decreases with speed of car. Noise is semi-loud when driving
straight. It almost completely goes away when turning right
and when turning left the grinding noise and friction intensify
significantly. If you brake at all regardless of the speed the
noise and friction is gone immediately and remain gone until
you let off the brakes. All brake warning lights (ABS, TCR,
etc.) came on a week ago, the same time that the noise
started and none of the brake features are working. Cruise
control is also not working. Had right front wheel bearing
replaced about 2 weeks ago. This noise started about 1 week
ago after all the brake warning lights came on and continues
to get worse. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like your brakes are shot. It could be the other wheel bearing too. When any warning lights come on you need to get them looked at. They come on for a reason. Stop driving the car and get it looked at. The cruise not working is most likely because of all the lights that are on.

100% agree with TransAm77!!! Holly, you are taking a HUGE risk with your life by continuing to drive this car. If you have complete brake failure while trying to stop at an intersection or a red light, you just might have a serious accident! Please get the brakes checked out by a mechanic ASAP!

Noise goes away when turning Right is ussually the right side wheel bearing. You still may have a left side issue. It sounds to me like who ever did your r/side bearing screewed it up. Since the brakes have to come apart to do the bearing they may not haave put. It together correcty. Both the bearing and the brake system will continue to geyt worse if you keep driving it. Get it towed to a qualified tech ASAP. Your other issues can be related to this possible improper repair.
