My 2004 Mazda 6 stalled out now won't start
Asked by Jooky Aug 20, 2019 at 07:24 AM about the 2004 Mazda MAZDA6 4 Dr i Sedan
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
It stalled just as I got to my wife's job. Went
to restart it but it just clicks. Radio was still
working fine as were the lights. Haven't tried
to get a jump just yet but could the battery
have died? Just got the car from (no joke) a
little old lady who was the only owner.
Battery has no date tag to tell me how old it
is. Help, don't want to be stranded here.

Small update: Well, found the date tag on the battery, and unfortunately it's for Dec 2013. So guessing the battery is shot. Going to try and jump it so we can at least get to an auto store and pick up a new one. Will update after gettinf a jump.
Second update; jump did no good. Battery is definitely toast, lots of corrosion on the positive terminal. So now it's a 5 mile walk to the auto store for a new battery. Wish me luck.
More on this. Walk was actually only a mile plus one way, I had been told it was 5, but the new battery didn't work. Finally traced it to the anti-theft system. So I was going to disable it and lo and behold there is no keyless entry/anti-theft module in the car. So as of now it sits in the parking lot of m wife's job. Nearest Mazda dealership is 20 miles away. May try a few more tricks for getting it started. That and may order the module and out it in. Ironically, we got her old 87 Caprice running again. Now if we get my old 300ZX going too that would be something.
