Window down and won't come up

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a problem with the left side sliding door window in my 2003 Mazda
MPV minivan. The window went down all of a sudden. It didn’t drop, but
quietly slid down. I can lift it up with my hands but it slides back down. The
power window button seems to work to lower it: its motors makes the
familiar sound and it seems to pull the window down. But when I press UP,
nothing happens, no sound, no movement. Do I need to replace the entire
regulator plus motor assembly? Or is some sort of a cable or hook simply
came loose that can be tied back up? I don’t want to buy the regulator and
motor if I don’t have to but I will if that’s the issue. I am a handy guy but I
don’t know much about cars, so please explain in plain English. Thanks!!

First thing would be to take a look at it,would just be guessing at it,could just be the cable is bad and rolled up in assembly, that is why you can only hear motor go down not up IMO.

Thanks for your answer. Say, I go ahead and change the regulator and motor. Would it even fix the problem or is there something else that may also be broken?

It is usually the master power window swith on the front drivers door that goes bad. Usually one of the contacts breaks inside the switch. Replace the master posqer window swith and you should be fine. You can usually find the part a lot cheaper on Ebay than at a parts store.

My left window on sliding door won't go up..it's a manual one you have to turn yourself..you can roll it down but not up.
