2011 Dodge 3500 Exhaust

We have a 2011 3500 Dodge Ram truck. The tail pipe rotted and fell off. We
are going to be traveling 500 miles with it. Can we drive it without the pipe? It
gives a message to bring it in for service immediately. Goes through a
regeneration process.

I would be surprised that the ECM could detect a missing tailpipe and send a service message. The message may be coincidental and it's time to have the diesel catalyst serviced. Also, concerning the missing pipe, I would look and see where all that exhaust gas heat will be going especially that diesels produce a large volume of very hot exhaust gases. I saw a guy accidently set his load of hay on fire with exhaust gases. Not a happy day at the farm.
