I have a 2002 Mazda 626 and at first it wouldn't shift from first gear and now it's shifting gears but stuck in overdrive and the overdrive light is on. What should I do?

I've read that 626's have notorious bad transmission. They overheat and fail. Same with MPV. Thank Ford for that. In order to prevent that you need to install a transmission oil cooler. It should be easily available since mazda knows about this problem.
