battery

Asked by GuruBFMXF Jan 21, 2019 at 05:33 PM about the 2011 Toyota Prius Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2011 Toyota Prius. Right now I am not able to drive it very often. I have it stored in a parking garage.
What do I do to keep up the battery?
I was told to just start the car and run it once a week for 20 minutes. I don't understand how letting it sit in place, car on, but engine not running, could keep it charged. Should I gun the engine?

Engine must be running for this to have any effect on you battery's charge status. If you have an electrical outlet in the garage, buy a maintenance charger like a Deltran Battery Tender and it will maintain your charge level.
