Transmission filter

Pulled pan off  transmission to change filter and
change fluid, but there isn't a filter on it and not
where to put one. It's a 2002 Mazda Tribute LX V 6

I'm having the same problem with my 02 Stratus would that be pretty much the same it has no pan on the bottom only a drain plug in it and on the front of it it has a removable pan with the solenoids under it is it the same as the Mazda it would be internal and only done at rebuild
