A dealer doesn't have to be listed with CG to allow you to have the car inspected. Since you are looking at a newer Maserati, I can see why the dealer doesn't want you taking it. I assume it comes with a warranty, and anything wrong will be covered if there is anything wrong. Is it an actual Maserati dealer or third party? If you really want someone to look at it, work a deal that they drive the car over to your shop, and they can witness the inspection.
Or hire an independent inspection company to inspect the vehicle at the Dealer. I've used lemonsquad.com for this with excellent results! Hope that helps! Jim
Make a deal for them to take it to your mechanic or have the mechanic go to them.
I discovered on the Carfax report that the engine was replaced at 29,500, which at least to me why the price is so low! Does anyone have an opinion on buying "replaced engine" vehicle? How do I know if it was new, rebuilt engine or salvaged?
It is from a Maserati dealership -on their used car lot.
A lot of times the carfax will tell you where the vehicle was serviced or repaired. Give them a call or stop by with the VIN. Ask them to pull up the service records for the vehicle. Make it clear that you're not interested in any previous owners or anything like that at the beginning of your conversation. I've done that and found service facilities to be very cooperative. Personally I'd be very cautious about buying a 3 year old vehicle that's already had the engine replaced. Especially if it was not done at the Dealer. Is there a Lemon history on the carfax? If so you definitely don't want it! A few years ago a lady from work bought a brand new Maserati with some of the proceeds from her late husband's life insurance. He had been sick with cancer and passed away. Well the Maserati was an absolute piece of junk! It would start when IT wanted to and she was late for work several times because of it! After about a year of fighting with it, and the Dealer, she traded it in on a new Ford Explorer. She's been very happy with her Ford and is also very happy to tell anyone who asks about what a piece of junk her Maserati was! Hope that helps! Jim
If you buy it be sure and get a factory backed extended warranty. Sell it before the warranty runs out!
