Check on any number of Mazda forums or even with a Mazda dealer for an answer, they'll likely have a wealth of info to share. If you're going to repair the motor, and since that would involve dismantling the front of the motor, why not go one step further and replace the head gaskets? That way you can check the condition of the valves. Chances are if you wore out the timing chain the head gaskets may not be far behind.
