Asked by Melissa Hammock Apr 11, 2020 at 11:28 PM about the 1998 Ford Explorer 4 Dr XLT SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Runs and drives good. It’s issue is that it got shut
off and would not crank back up. I ended up having
it towed back to my house. It sat overnight. I
changed fuel filter out. It started back up. This is
the 2nd time it has done this. New battery. New
starter. New fuel filter. I am not got any ideas on
what to do next. Please help.

Try checking the coil with a multimeter when the condition is present. You can obtain the specs on the net. You can also visually inspect the coil. Remove it and check for any cracks on the coil or or bulges on the bottom. A loose wire going into the coil could cause this problem.
