I HAVE A 1998 MUSTANG GT. I NEED TO REPLACE THE VEHICAL SPEED SENSOR

Asked by mrtbwmn Jan 07, 2012 at 04:22 PM about the 1998 Ford Mustang GT Convertible RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

THE SPEED SENSOR FOR MY 98 IS SMALLER THAN THE ONE I REMOVED. THE PARTS HOUSE SAID THE ONE I HAVE IS FOR A 2002. (I HAVE A 5 SPEED TRANNY) THE SENSOR GOES ON THE TRANNY. IF I PUT THE ONE THAT IS THE SAME AS THE ONE I TOOK OUT WILL IT FIX MY SPEEDOMETER  AND MY TRIP METER. RIGHT NOW WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING IT PEGS OUT AT 150 MPH LOL

The speed sensor is a good starting point, but unless you have access to a ford scan tool you will not know for sure. But from the sounds of what you're describing it maybe be the instrument cluster itself. Hope this helps.

agreed with other poster, bad cluster,2 different size sensors, the smaller one wont work, get what size is in it,try it.
