Mazda MPV will not go into park and I'm unable to remove keys

Asked by Guru94F5N4 Sep 23, 2020 at 09:48 AM about the 1996 Mazda MPV 4 Dr ES Passenger Van

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So after starting the car and driving it for a small spell, it would not go back into
park at the steering/ignition level.  We were able to manually set the Trans into
Neutral and move into  a parking spot.  and reset the Trans into park.  Keys will
not come out of ignition because it won't go into park.

Right, that is the way it is supposed to work. You need to get the car into park to remove the keys.. You don't want to be diagnosing it on the side of the road. Have it towed to a garage to replace the broken part.
