If you replaced the ignition then yes you would.
I was told that i could position the key with the chip n it in front of the lock cylinder and crank it over and it will start. Is this true

If you have two working keys, then there is a procedure to do it yourself for the third key.
It is possible to hold the key very close to the new key when cranking then if the car starts follow the procedure for reprogramming
Update,,,, If you have an older antitheft unit then it may not be possible due to the older units using a resistor inside the key .. and .. because U can't get 2 keys in the slot .. U may be screwed /// How bad did you mangle the old tumblr .. perhaps the locksmith can do an exorcism on it
i have a 1994 mustang gt. lost my key, drilled the ignition out. trying to start my car now but again, i have no key or key fob. is this the reason i am not starting?
