98 Mustang 3.8L high idle after using cruise control

I have an issue with high idle only after using cruise
control. She’ll idle at 2000 RPM in park after driving
with cruise. When I shut off the engine and restart,
she’ll idle normal again. Any idea where to start?

The cable seems to be free but I'll check it out again. I’m about to go on a road trip with it tomorrow and this just cropped up yesterday evening. Thanks for the info!

see if you notice the cable going slack after turning ignition off ( will need a helper )
