Transmission issues help please!

Asked by Guru94LF6Y Sep 14, 2020 at 08:42 AM about the 1993 Mazda 929 4 Dr STD Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My grandmother has a 1993 Mazda 929..a few
years ago the transmission would ‘cut in and out’
almost like slipping but not quite. She’s had it
looked at a few times and no one was quite sure so
she continued driving it. Now, when it’s started the
transmission whines until it warms up and
completely quits working (can’t get it to engage in
any gear) until it sits for about 10-20 mins but it
goes right back out after a few minutes. I’m not
very handy when it comes to transmissions and I’m
not sure the men she had look at it were either. Is
there any chance it’s something simple such as the
filter or bad transmission fluid? Once again, I’m not
very savvy with transmissions..so please excuse my
ignorance I’m just trying to help my grandmother.
Thank you.

See if you can find a transmission shop near your GM. Slight hesitations and such indicate worn or old fluid, not the engine completely shutting down. You have something else going on.
