Clutch

Asked by Guru1QB1Z Sep 16, 2019 at 12:45 AM about the 1998 Ford Ranger XLT Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1998 ford ranger 2.5 5 speed. I was driving the
truck and the clutch was fine, I got to where I was going
and when I went to take off my truck didn't move. I was
able to freely move my shifter through every gear with out
touching my clutch. And when i went to press the clutch it
was really hard to press and then became soft as thought
the pedal was just there for show My fluid is full.

Two things. 1. You may have air in the fluid and it needs a flush (that would explain the soft pedal) but if it’s not shifting right then it may be time for a new clutch I’ve had plenty of friends with that ranger have to replace the clutch I drive a 98 Ranger but it’s automatic so obviously I don’t have to worry about that.
