2019 Ford Edge Engine noise

Hi Adam, I came here to investigate the same noise in my 2019 Edge. I think it's the turbo, but the noise is very annoying & constant while interstate/highway driving. Did you ever get an answer from Ford?

My girlfriend hears a distinct underlying noise on acceleration in her new 2019 SEL, but I do not hear anything unusual besides the engine (and maybe a little normal transmission noise). She had a 2015 Edge prior to this, same 2.0 liter engine, but did not hear the noise. It bothers her so much she is considering returning the car. It must be one of those frequencies that some people hear and others do not. I'm wondering if it's due to the new transmission gears or something. It is not heard on deceleration.

Yeah, I took it to Ford and they said it is a normal noise. I don't think it sounds normal at all, but supposedly it's nothing bad or wrong, just really, really annoying.

Thanks for getting back. That's bullsh!t. We traded in a 2017 and it for sure didn't make this noise. I also wonder if it has anything to do with them deleting the engine cover in the 2019. Guess we'll just have to turn up the radio while on the interstate.

Just picked up a new left over 2019 SEL Edge and I swear the first few days the noise was not that bad say a few hundred miles but now almost a 1000 miles and it is loud as hell almost like a moped when you give it gas then let off the pedal all the whacky pining clicking noise, I took a video of mine and one the dealer was delivering that day it had 25 miles on and mine was defintetly louder.

I just bought a brand new 2020 that did not have that annoying sound when I bought it. I only started noticing it after I started driving the freeway. Now it’s always there when I accelerate! I wish I would have found this forum before I bought the car. Now I’m stuck with it maybe we could hammer ford with complaints and ask for the engine sound shield to be reinstalled. Maybe that would help.

I have a 2019, and I also have this noise. I took it to the dealership and they cannot reproduce the noise and then I found out they were driving on local streets. So I went back a final time and told him to ride with me and I took them on the interstate. Technician then was able to understand what the heck I’m talking about. He ends up being that there Are rubber flaps that are like mudflaps and they flip back- and-forth and slap the car. And this is where the noise is coming from. They told me I could have the option of taking them off, what a BS solution, because the ST looks better with them but the sound dominates your attention when driving long distances or at least long enough to begin noticing it and then you constantly hear it. The reason why it doesn’t do it at the very beginning so bad, it’s because the car is new and the flats are rigid and not broken in

@Truth, so you created an account just to criticize those of us speculating on this bizarre noise in the 2019 engine bay. It would have been great if you added an explanation of this noise. @Guru9ZRKD6, I'm not sure we're talking about the same noise. I have the 2.0L ecoboost & can kind of control the high pitch whine with the throttle while at highway speeds.. almost like it's a noise with the turbo. I wonder if they're using a different model/manufacturer of turbo in the 2019 vs 2017. I never took it back to fight the dealer as I'm sure they would call it normal as the other poster mentioned.

It is the retainer clips on the underbody splash shield. They are not buffered enough and they rattle until they break. The ones I removed from my car (to replace) I cannot find anywhere, not even the dealership! So, I'm stuck trying to find something to place between the clip and the splash shield to keep the wind from catching it. Good luck, everyone...

Ed92626 No one asked you to be a dick. For the record, the rattle that sounded like something was loose wasn’t there when I test drove & ultimately bought the car. The noise has now been resolved after 2 visits to the service dept. It was the high pressure fuel pump rattling at high RPM. The dealership owner himself found the issue after his techs couldn’t & pointed it out. He ordered a new one under warranty & replaced it. The noise immediately disappeared. So for the rest of you that enjoy your Edge but are perplexed about the rattling noise, there’s one option.

Not sure this forum is even active anymore, but I have a 2019 Ford Edge ST that I bought as a certified vehicle in 2022 with 15,500 miles. After the first week of having it, I noticed a loud whirling/rotation sound coming from the front driver's side wheel hub area. It is only noticebale when I hit about 58+mph. So, you can imagine how difficult it is to replicate the sound for the mechanic. It only happens with highway driving. They have replaced the wheel baring, the axle and I purchased 4 new tires..... still to NO resolve. I'm SO disappointed that there doesn't seem to be a fix or resolve for the issue. This is the most I've spent on a vehicle and the first Ford I've owned. I'm so bummed and now stuck with it to just deal with. NOT ok!
