I have a 2004 Mountaineer with 4.6 v8. It used to start immediately on first attempt. Now I'm getting random times when it won't start until the 2nd, 3rd or even 4th try. Sometimes it goes for days with no problem. Other times I have the problem a few times per day. When it first happened, I found giving it gas worked, but when it started, there was light colored smoke which smelled like raw gas. I don't do that anymore. Also when it first started...about a year ago...I took it to a mechanic because I thought it might be the fuel pump. The fuel pump checked out fine. Any ideas? It reminds me of the old days with carburetors and vapor lock.
