kills batteries

driving along and my 2002 cougar dies out and the battery drains to nothing --
either replace the battery or charge up the battery and the car runs fine for a
while....sometimes it kills the battery completely but definitely drains to
nothing..will go sometimes 3 months between

is the alt /charging system been VATED....thats checked for charge,volts,amps, draw...free at the right service place..
