Tires squeeling when turning & now when I park 1 rear tire left a rut in the road.

Asked by whitneyw Jul 03, 2014 at 06:05 PM about the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2002 Mercury Mountaineer. I've been meaning
to take it to get looked at due to noise from
rear end when turning (sharper turns), but
haven't had a chance & haven't been driving it
much but when I pulled into a parking spot the
other day I noticed the asphalt was "pushed
back" around back tire, I moved the SUV today
& same thing happened when I parked this
time (if it makes a difference the first time I
turned left into the spot & it was the left rear
tire that did it, the second time I turned right
into the spot & its the right rear tire that did it).
Thanks for any help/suggestions!

Sounds like your rear differential needs to be serviced it he clutches in the rear are locking up along with the rear end oil their is a conditioner that needs to go in it will free up the clutches I have an 03 mountaineer had the same prob. Changed rear end oil and added the recommended conditioner and solved the prob. Go to Napa or some place t Like that tell them you want to drain and fill rear end they will guide you simple job 2 wrenches all you need. Hth.
