check engine came on after the car was checked and leaks were fixed. what does that mean

It means that you need to have the code read so you know what is going on with your engine. Post the results and we will try and help!

Most common is gas cap. If the seal if worn or folded it will be detected as an EVAP leak and throw a code - and CEL

Its not always the problem though my wife's car has the check engine light on and it is for a major evap leak changed the gas cap changed the filler neck come to find out it is the EVAP VENT SELINOID I'm not saying that is ur problem her car is a 2010 impala (goddamn Chevy's I hate em) so do as the other guys are saying get the code read then repost ur question with as much info as u can, in doing so that would make troubleshooting ur problem a lot easier.
