Car has park but will not move in drive or reverse

My car has park but when I put it in drive or reverse
it just revs up like its in neutral and it happened all
at once I am absolutely stumped on what the
problem is can someone help me

Have you checked the fluid level, how is it ? If ok, it could be the torque converter or a broken drive shaft.
transmitter check lights came on. I parked my car and now my car won't move. It's a Mercury Sable 2004

Me too does anyone know what it could be, transmission was not slipping or anything, the shop says I need a whole new transmission and they want to charge me 2900 for a rebuilt one

2005 mercury sable it dropped all the fluid while driving at 65mph & over heated as well. Changed the transmission filter & filled it up as far as the transmission fluid & it goes into drive & all the lower gears & park but no reverse at all! Can anyone give me a clue where to start eliminating any further on it than I possibly have to
