I have a 98 ranger that came with a 2.5 4 cylinder and motor is shot I also have a 96 ranger that has 4.0 v6 and body is shot I am attempting to put the v6 in the 98 The chassis are some different the 96 has twin I beam suspension and the 98 has independent a arm and the frame is approx 2 inches wider on the 98 One of my questions is I believe ford offered a v6 in 98 so can I just buy motor mounts for a 98 with v6 and bolt motor in ?? And secondly both engines have a square master plug that disconnects engine from truck the computer is in the engine side of harness so I took computer out of firewall and laid in engine so engine is completely wired still with its correct computer the plugs are the same other than one or the other has different pins .. I’m hoping that for different options like v6 had tach and 4 didn’t .. would the important pins be the same such as to oil pressure ,water temperature, powering the computer etc ?

Is the 96 Truck OBDi or OBDii, 1996 was the start of OBDii possible mid year. maybe the reason for the different wiring? I would post your question on a Ranger forum. Most of the people answering questions here don't usually deal with custom, or engine swap questions. Just installing the same engine is tough enough, let alone a different size and model year. Good Luck.http://www.fordrangerforum.com
