Why isn't my car starting?

Asked by Eugenia Jan 06, 2022 at 06:03 PM about the 2000 Mercury Mountaineer RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Last week, my mountaineer wouldn't start up. I had 1/2
tank of gas still. I replaced the fuel pump and still nothing.
It cranks, but won't turn over. I've checked the relays and
fuses and they're fine. We tried starter fluid and it started
then died. I've noticed also that my key fob won't unlock or
lock the doors and my keypad on the driver's door isn't
working either now. The key I got with the car doesn't work
on the doors, only the ignition.  What could be the issue?

So it started then dies on starter fluid so that means you have spark but no fuel. Check for blown injector fuse, fuel pump fuse. Inertia switch tripped? Did you replace the fuel pump relay and filter when the pump was replaced?
