do i put transaxle fluid in the same place as transmission fluid
1 Answer
Yes they are one in the same on front wheel drive vehicles that use a "transaxle" instead of a "transmission". In the "old" days a car had a transmission at the front middle of the car behind the engine, that transmitted the power from the engine to the back of the car, to the rear axle via a drive shaft. With the introduction of front wheel drive, the "transmission was now bolted on the back of the engine and the entire assembly was originally put in the cars sideways and had 2 short axles with complex ball joints that go directly from the transmission to the drive wheels. Hence the names TRANSAXLE 1/2 shafts.
