Can I Tow my 800 pound kayak with this Jetta SE

So I am buying a 300 pound kayak that has a 500 pound trailer. Total weight
is under 800 pound of tongue weight. My 2019 Jetta says in the owners
manual that towing is not advised. But it's not a 3,500 pound U-Haul trailer
being hauled through Colorado. It's 800 pounds going to a Kansas lake.  

Am I missing something that would make me rethink ignoring the owners
manual? I don't know enough about cars to know why this is a bad idea.

Look at the owner's manual for the vehicle's load rating. It's normally 150 pounds per seating position plus 200 pounds in the trunk. So if it's a 5 seater that's 950 pounds total. Hope that helps! Jim

You can probably get away with it but if you blow something up you will have voided your warranty. If VW says no towing there are good reasons.

Must be one heck of a kayak. Most are much lighter.
