IDELING PROBLEMS

Asked by atwoodpd Dec 17, 2014 at 07:39 AM about the 1993 Mercury Cougar XR7 Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I HAVE A 1993 MERCURY COUGAR WITH A 3.8 ENGINE. IT HAS AN IDLING
PROBLEM. IT ALMOST WILL GO DEAD WHEN IDLING. WHEN YOU PUT IN GEAR
IT WILL GO DEAD UNLESS YOU  MASH DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL. IT GETS
WORSE WHEN THE ENGINE REACHES OPERATING TEMPERATURE. IT WILL
CHANGE SOME WHAT TO THE BETTER WHEN YOU UNPLUG THE MAS-
AIRFLOW HOOKUP BUT WILL STILL GO DEAD WHEN PUTTING IT IN GEAR.
