the alternator was replaced and is new, i tried to un plug the alternator while the ignition is off and the engine continuers to run, it has an aftermarket ignition system and is throwing code 212

Aftermarket ignition system. What is it? Maybe this is the culprit?

SPROUT circuit grounded spark output signal from eec-iV used to control amount of timing retard, the engine is also running rough, like a miss in one cylinder

it is a auto zone aftermarket ignition switch, Ford does not make the oem for the 1993 anymore

i read that i can put a diode into the line somewhere, execpt i don't know what line to install the didoe

I still suspect the ignition switch but it sounds like you have been messn' with things so who knows?

the ignition switch was not changed, we changed the cylinder only, Picked up a new ignition switch and will put it in, also picked up a throttle position sensor. scanner reads always lean, codes 172, 176 and 212. 212 is lost contact with ignition switch and TPS. 'm guessing thats what is making it run rough, will let you know, Going in for a shop diagonistoic on tuesday.

changed the ignition switch, it started and stopped properly and ran for about a minute then died. Apparently the ignition wire is good, code 172 and 176 solved. Ran a new hot wire from the fuse box to the ignition module with a toggle cut off, same as a race car, and it is running again. Now just have the 212 code to deal with, it is the sprout wire from the ignition to the pcm. i think it may be where the wires connect from the power control module to the ignition module, hopefully it is simple, otherwise will have to run another new wire. the engine is still running rough, like it is not retarding or advancing, maybe the throttle position control..

changed the ignition control module control connector, the ground wire from the engine to the body, and set the plug wires in the proper firing order, it seems to be running better without the miss, but still needs the toggle switch to start and run. Am going to check the neutral start switch and wiring to the transmission. only code 212 is left, can take it in for diagonstics.

They found it. It was a module in the fuse box. All the extra curricular wiring is now gone, and the engine is running great on its own. Make sure your battery is tied down good.

update, this car is running great, down to 2 codes, running lean all time. This am sure is the egr vacuum solenoid, had stalling, idling, stuttering from stop issues before the new engine went in. and the PIP signal, new distributor, second new cap and rotor, this should go away with the egr vacuum solenoid, what a lot of work doing this restoration.

stuttering from stop went away, stalling like a misfire went away, new distributor and new egr solenoid did work, . check engine light light comes on when throttle up to over 1500 rpm from dead stop, goes off right away, I extended the vacuum line from the egr solnoid relay switch, could this have caused a vacuum catchup, still runs a little rough, i think it is clogged injectors will try to clean them out.
