Forward Axle Squeaking 2019 1500 4X4
Asked by Aircanine Jan 04, 2019 at 08:29 PM about the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ Crew Cab 4WD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Got a constant squeaking noise from drivers front wheel area, doesn't squeak in 4WD though. Sounds like chirping you get with a worn brake pad, the truck is days old I'm thinking there's a bad ceramic pad in there... It only makes noise after truck warms up usually with in several miles it kicks in. If anyone has some insight I'd be grateful. P.S. It has nothing to do with drive train, or transfer case, had a dealership claim replacement of fluids and transfer case gasket, would fix it.... it did not.

Same with mine, the noise its specially when speeding up gently between 1x1000 rpm and 1.5 x 1000 rpm, I went to the dealer and they don't give me any solution
Same with mine starts whistling in 2wd mode at about 30 mph and above.
We have the same problem with our 2019 Chevy Silverado. The dealership took a drive train off another truck and put it on our truck still makes the same noise. We have now called GM to try to take care of this problem.
I was told today that this is a known issue and GM Engineering is test a fix. Its documented in GM document 5343094. I was told that I would have to wait for a fix.
Been fighting with GM Customer care on this issue. Its been 4 months and they are unable to fix. The handed me GM document 5343094 PIP5653 and told me to "deal with it". Called GM customer care, which has been no help, and told me you will have to wait for fix. No one at GM can call engineering and ask for an update on the issue, which is unacceptable in my view. Asked them to replace my vehicle and they came back with a 100 dollar service voucher, f-ing lame... GM does no give a crap about their customers.
My vehicle is doing the same thing.
exact same thing with mine for a year now
Same problem with mine, it happens once its warmed up (30 miles of driving or more) It is not the engine, I can put it in neutral and rev the engine and the frequency doesn't change. My truck has 5500 miles and its done it since it was new. I have it in the dealer today but don't hold out much hope.

Hey guys, I have two noises coming from the front drivers area. One I found!!!! The one I didn’t find is a squeak in the front drivers side suspension. I put my foot on the running board and slightly bounce the truck you can hear it squeaking up and down. It did this when it was stock, then I put a leveling kit on it and it still did it, then I put a 6 inch BDS lift and it is still there. They’ve lubed everything possible and it still remains. The one I found actually had a TSB for it. I don’t have the TSB number but the dealer found it instantly when I brought it in and described the sound in where I thought it was coming from. I had my wife drive and I used my stethoscope to isolate the sound to the firewall floorboard area on the driver side. After looking underneath the vehicle I noticed a wire harness that goes over the transmission bell housing and it was making contact with the white seam sealer underneath the trucks floor. It sounded like a squeaky Styrofoam ice chest underneath my center console. I took the dealer and in about two minutes and they found a TSB that called for a wire harness relocate. At least one problem is solved!
Wow!! I have a 2019 Traulboss, the truck started the same noise around 15k miles. I also had a BDS SUSPENSION LIFT taking the truck to a full 6" and still have the same problem with the noise. I have not been able to pin point it. I also have the silverado brake drag or squeak after it has sat for awhile typically when it cool outside.

Any update? My truck whistle around 30-50 mph only does it when I medium acceleration the truck and then fades out , it’s coming from the passenger side, any help? I had dealer ship replace the alternator, didn’t work.

It’s a 2019 Silverado 1500 LTZ fully loaded truck
Same here. It’s been making that pinging noise since I bought it and now it has 23k on it. I’m getting the run around by the dealership and this is the fourth GM truck I’ve purchased since 2014. I’ve decided to get rid of the truck and go with Toyota. It may not have as many features like the camera system, but they’re also not in the shop every couple of weeks. The software is junk and they’re starting to delete options that used to be in the High Country package such as adjustable seatbelts, pedals, headrest ( which may have only been on the ‘15). The little things do matter. Especially when these trucks are at the $70k mark. Not to mention the automatic tailgate also fails from time to time and the screen will go black while driving. I purchased a new vehicle so I wouldn’t have to be in the shop fixing parts!
They just replaced my left front axle ... guess what in 2wd started noise again and my truck did not drive as smoothly as original once they replaced the axle .. have a bouncing feeling .. not smooth on drivers side.. I took it back .. they did an alignment.. told me they drove it before alignment and it was fine! I said it is not fine it is not same smooth ride! After alignment .. still not same as before !!! And squeak noise back!

My dads truck does it too. Very annoying noise, only does it in 2wd, even putting truck in auto gets rid of the noise. Has to be something in the transfer case or driveshaft.
Same thing here. I just bought a new 2020 and the same noise and sqeek. The trucks has 950 miles on the odometer. However, mine is displaying service 4wd. It has to be something with transfer case or components.

2020 Texas Edition Crew Cab. Started week and half after purchase. Has anyone got any answers from there dealership on this situation. My dealership is blaming the COVID-19 on not having parts. I told them that this has been going on before the virus.
My 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali developed a similar noise. 3500 miles. Seems to occur when the truck is warm, at speeds over 25 mph and in 2WD. When I switch to 4WD the sound stops. I’ll be calling the dealership tomorrow and will provide updates as I learn more.
2019 Silverado similar noise, occurs at speeds over 25mph after the truck is warm(up to a hour of driving). Haven't tried switching to 4WD, I'll see if that makes a difference. I took it in today to the dealership and they confirmed the noise. Booked in on Thursday to locate and fix. I'll update on this also. Brand new truck.
Update on post above- 2019 Silverado. Switching to either Auto4WD or 4WD makes the noise go away. I'll update on Thursday after I take it into the dealership.
Mhand, good luck, I got my truck back a month ago after they replaced somethings in the transfer case. I have the same problem yet. Truck warms up drive over 25 to 30 noise starts. Going into all wheel drive the noise stops, switch back to 2 wheel and it starts back up again.
thanks for quick reply Guru, Yes that is my exact issue. Called the Mechanic at the dealership to update him and he mentioned something about a problem with a seal on the front end somewhere .
Guru did that fix the problem with your truck or do you still have the noise?
Still have the noise,no change. They replaced a seal and some shaft that was damaged.
Has anyone had any fix or solutions with this? I have a 2020 Silverado Custom Crew. Same issue as above only 7,500km on the truck. Shift into auto and it goes away. Only happens after truck is warm after driving 20 mins or more.
Kyle, one this is for sure we can all duplicate the problem, My twin brother and I bought the 19 LT Silvarado 1500 a week a part. His doesn't do this but mine does. Very frustrating.
I posted last week about this issue on my 2019 Sierra 1500. I just got back from the dealership. This appears to be a known issue and covered by service bulletin PIP5653. Same thing as what pauljj posted in this thread about 11 months ago. The dealership said to deal with it for now and call back in a month to see if the parts are in stock. Here's a link to the bulletin: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10176323-9999.pdf
Wish I would've drove my 2019 High country on the highway a little longer lot of noise in the front drive system and some kind of noise in side the muffler there going to replace the exhaust system and the back wheels has a vibration they put two new tires on still the same have to take it back when the new exhaust system comes in love the truck I just hope they can fix these problems
Cyberslinger answered 4 years ago
I had this same issue 2019 silverado and the noise goes away when switching to 4x4, took it to the garage this week they took the front drive shaft off and replaced it. Whatever it was I do not have the noise anymore.

I’ve been telling them my 2020 trail boss is having the same issue so today he said to put it in 4 high when it starts and see if it quits. If it does then it’s actually the Axel and they will have to replace it. Hope this helps everyone.
My 2019 Custom trail boss chirps when I apply slight throttle after coasting down the road at 30 mph and up switching to 4wd does not stop it

Purchased a 2020 1500 Silverado in July. Found it to have the same chirp as described in this thread. I took a copy of the Tech Service Bulletin with me to the dealership and they confirmed that as the problem. They ordered parts but said they were on backorder and had been for awhile. However, two weeks later they called and parts had came in. Took my truck back, they replaced the axle and noise is now gone. So hopefully parts are now available for everyone having this problem.

I had mine fixed with the GM bulletin issue. Chirping went away........ Now it’s back. Took it back and even after fixing it a few months back.... We have to hear it ourselves. Whenever it happens I swing by the dealership and it stops for them to listen. Talking about frustrating
Guru9VV1NF answered 3 years ago
Same thing with my friends 2020 Z71. Hade new seal replaced on Rt front at the dealer. They kept the truck for 12 days. Still making chirp but 10 fold louder. He said he called the dealership in Tallahassee with no return call. He came to me for some advise and I told him to trade for a Ford F150 . I think he is going to get rid of it.

PIP5653 GM bulletin says no fix yet. Noise in front axle. I’m really frustrated with it . Engineers working on a remedy. 2500 miles and now I need to turn the radio up to drown out the noise

Latest message on bulletin from GM to dealers: 04/14/2021 Updated to instruct dealer that engineering is further looking into this.
2020 LM2 RST Crew 4x4 Similar issue, but I'm seeing whistling and chirping in the thread. My truck starts to whistle from somewhere in the front end about 30-40 mph after about 30 miles and the noise increases as speed increases. Very loud. I'm going to try the auto 4wd after work and see if it stops. I read another bulletin about the weather strips on the front of the hood causing a whistle. I took both of them off yesterday and still there. I also shut the engine down at speed and the whistle was still there. Definitely not being caused by the engine running.
Update - I have the same issue from PIP5653. Noticed 5/29/19 on the bulletin, so that means 2 years and no fix. Not good.

Had my 2020 Silverado to two different dealers, both gave me the same answer, "GM engineers are working on this well known noise problem." After reading all these similar complaints, I sent a letter directly to Ms. Mary T. Barra, Chief Executive Officer of General Motors, 300 Renaissance Center, Detroit, Michigan. Perhaps more letters might generate a resolution. Thinking this is a costly fix, that GM is avoiding for that very reason. Also cc'd GM / Chevrolet Customer Service Division. Going to be contacting a Lemon Law Atty very soon. BTW - If GM is found to be negligent for a fix, and that's pretty obvious, they have to pay all atty fees, per the "Lemon Law Guidelines." No upfront atty fees required!
Bulletin No.: PIP5653E Published date: 03/27/2020 Preliminary Information PIP5653E Squeak Chirp Noise From Front Axle In 2wd Some customers may comment on a squeak or chirp noise in 2wd that goes away in 4wd. Some people may also describe it as a metallic jingle, ringing, click or tick. Condition is easiest to duplicate in warmer ambient temperatures, after approximately 30 miles of driving and is barely audible. Technician may notice that the noise seems to be from the front left axle seal area. This information only applies to the SU4 axle. The condition seems to originate from contact between the left stub shaft and the cross pin in the front dierential assembly. To correct this condition the dealer should order a left axle shaft seal and retainer clip from the dealer parts department, to be replaced when replacing the stub shaft with WPC number WPC838. Please see Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Left Side (SU4) for repair procedure and see the directions below to obtain the wpc part. The Front Wheel drive Shaft can be obtained from the Warranty Parts Center (WPC) using the TSP Dealer Request Form This form is located on: Global Connect

We are having the same squealing noise on our 2020, started at 5000K, so loud it's embarrassing to drive. Tempted to park the truck in front of the dealership, covering it with lemons.
Have the same issue as well. $50,000+ vehicle sounds like I bought it from the junk yard. Dealership told me than GM had a fix but it did not solve the problem. Have to wait til they come out with a new fix. For a problem that GM knew about since 2019, it is absolutely ridiculous that this isn't resolved.
Guru9BLZG3 answered 3 years ago
Same problem. Had the seal and a few other parts replaced. Took a road trip down south (from Illinois) and the sound came back. This will be my third trip to the dealership. 1st time they said they couldn't "duplicate the same sound". Second time I had to tell the tech that took it for a ride what I read in a GM blog. He thought it was suspension issues... Third time appointment for this this week.
I have 2019 elevation I found in a dealers lot in Oct 2020 with 56 km yes 56 first long trip it started having a squeak seems to be getting worst and you don't have to drive as far not suspension seems to be rotational stops when stop and starts when you start it sounds like the passenger side truck still has less then 5000. Km. Sighed frustrated

We should all do a Class Action Law Suit against GM. I bought a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado Z71. I have the same issue. I have had it to 2 different dealerships. I now have both of them confirming the sound. But I was told by one dealership that it was a rock stuck in the brake caliper. They just plain lied to me. They said they removed the rock. I got down the road and the noise was still there. The dealers will not fix the truck. Due to GM not being able to figure out what the actual problem is. Which I think is another lie. The real problem here is that GM has known about this problem since May of 2019 and they have continued to sell this truck to the consumer. They have never had a fix for the problem, although it looks they tried to fix it. The real issue GM has here is DECEIVING their customers.
i have the same issue and symptoms that everyone has mentioned. Mine is a 2109 Silverado Z-71 with 9500 miles. Just left dealer with no remedy, just that engineers are working on it. Was also given the document number to lookup from Chevy for proof they were aware of issue. Guess for now just turn the radio up a little louder.
I sent a email to CEO Ms. Mary T. Barra, Chief Executive Officer of General Motors. She forwarded it onto an Executive who called me. She called the engineering department who told her they were working on it if you believe that. For 2 yrs I said and asked if I needed to wait another 2 yrs? What kind of engineers do you have there? And now its still happening to the 2021 trucks. Her name is this if anyone else wants to email her. I have the same issue, I bought a 2020 1500 Z71 Silverado exactly a year ago and I have 12,000 miles on the truck. Exact same chirping noise after 15 miles. The dealership has had my truck for 2 weeks now and they are telling me that they can not do anything about it and GM is working on it. I which I did more homework before I bought this truck and after 25 years loyal to GM, I am gone!!!

same issue on my 65,000 $ high country 2020 model. same run around from G M. they shoud have to drive this thing, then maybe they could figure out what is wrong. this has been "elevated" which means nothing is gonna come of it and maybe we will all get tired of all the effort of complaining to them and go away. i've been a chevy customer for 40 years but will not buy another. this whole process is ridiculous. only thing about the whole ordeal is that one person actually did what they said they would and actually called me back like they said they woud.....one out of three ain't bad when dealing with big corp.
I have the same issue on my 2020 Silverado RST Z71. It started a few weeks after purchase. I have had it in the deal multiple times. A year later with no resolution...they keep kicking it back to GM. The bulletin from July 2020 (PIP5653G) defines the problem and the fix with parts list. My dealer order the parts and got 4 of 5 of the parts in and then said GM had put the 5th part on hold because they were now not sure if that would fix it. They said however that another customer had the problem and these parts fixed it. I called Chevrolet and they assigned a case worker to it.
same problem. Dealer wouldn't do anything because they said GM doesn't have a fix for it. Contacted GM Customer care and after an hour on the phone i received a text message saying there is not a fix for my problem! A text message. How about that for customer satisfaction.

Hey boys I narrow this down I have been going through the vehicle and have been greasing certain areas and two days ago I got a needle for greasing and what I did was punctured the CV axle boot and pumped a whole bunch of grease inside both boots the one near the transfer case and the one near the wheel bearing I also did notice a small 2/16 Gap where the CV axle goes into the wheel bearing and goes into the transfer case I pumped a bunch of Grease into that Gap around the CV axle and transfer case and same thing with the front wheel bearing and the noise immediately stopped after the transmission got past 55 Fahrenheit when it starts making the noise and gets louder as it gets hotter but now doesn't make the noise even if it's at 85 Fahrenheit the transmission so it has something to do with either the front driver side axle with there being lack of grease in the boots or something to do with the bearing that's attached to the transfer case or the wheel bearing
Anybody have any updates? Going on 3 years since Tech Bulletin PIP5653 was first published and still no viable fix. I reached out to GM over six months ago and was basically told to pound sand. My 1st GM product and probably the last.
HAD LEFT FRONT AXEL ASSEMBLY SEPERATE CASUING TRUCK TO CRASH, HAD SQUEEK AND VIBRATION PRIOR TO FAILURE. 2019 Z 71

I've been having this issue for a few months now...sounds exactly as described in the bulletin. I brought the truck into the dealer and gave them the bulletin and they got back to me and told me the end result was transfer case needed to be replaced. Within two days of getting the truck back and driving it to work roughly 20 miles each way, the sound is back...They told me to drive the truck for a week and let them know if the sound was still there. I will be contacting the dealer again....
GuruDYYQSP answered 8 months ago
UPDATE: I brought the truck back into the dealer and went on another road test with a tech. This tech said he sees this problem a lot because Chevy changed the differential on the 2019 models. He was certain this was an issue with the left front axle (exactly what the bulletin says to replace). I had the left front axle replaced and so far the noise is gone. Not sure why they chose to ignore the bulletin and replace the transfer case on me, but now I have a new transfer case and left front axle and the noise is gone.
