no answer for you, I am having the same problem. Tried above, below, took off adjust bracket. Won't come out.
I have done 3 alternator changes on Capris. Forget the manual that tells you to take it out the bottom because all the bolts on the exhaust pipe are rusted and will break. take the bottom shield off so you can disconnect the alternator. Now from the top take off the idle speed control valve [ 2 bolts and 2 hoses. ] [one hose will have anti freez in it so plug it . The alternator will now come out the top. It is tight but it will come out.
jogger: thanks, ended up doing that thursday night. Alternate question: Used jack wednesday night to get bottom bolt out. Let jack down and shut hood, no problem. Thursday i didn't use the jack at all, got the alternator out, called it a night and now the hood won't shut - could i have flexed the frame? Why thrs nite when i didn't use the jack and not wednesday when i did?
Remove the 2 bolts that hold the IAC valve in place, push the IAC off to the side, and the Alternator will come right out of the top. Makes it a 15 minute job. Tip was given to me by Roo-Sport.com (503-919-4227). They also have all the parts you'll need, at some of the lowest prices on the web!
