If it's stock, an '88 is carbureted. With a carburetor there's no ECM. Is there any other problem with the truck?

In 88 there was an engine management computer. Look online.

My bad. My mind goes to EFI when you say computer. They had that hateful spark control computer which you can get on Rock Auto for about $150.
