1998 Ford Windstar Squeaky Back End

Asked by LisaRae Mar 01, 2015 at 07:30 PM about the 1998 Ford Windstar 3 Dr STD Passenger Van

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1998 Ford Windstar that drives great.  But, it sounds bad when going over
bumps, squeaky in back.  In fact, if I step on the back bumper to get in van, it will squeak.
What do you think it is and what can I do to stop the noise?

Thank you!

Possibly rear shocks needing replaced. Or maybe the rear sway bar bushings if so equipped.

Yes you should be ok. But don't wait to long. If it's sway bar bushings there is no way to grease them. Do you also hear what sounds like gingling change in your pocket when you hit bumps? If so its most likely the bushings. They have large metal washers on them and when the bushing go bad the washers tend to make a gingling sound due to being loose.
