How do I reattach overdrive knob to shifter stalk?

because of the difficulty shifting from Park to Drive and back, the overdrive knob has broken loose. Is there a way to lubricate the linkage?

It is not difficult to shift but is difficult to move the shifter from Park to Drive or Reverse and back again. Is there an adjustment or place to lubricate so as to ease moving the shifter?
