after replacing the ignition switch on my 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer, the door remote control stopped working, the chime goes off when the drive's side is open without the key on the ignition, and the roof light stopped dimming when doors are closed. It all started when my mechanic replaced the ignition switch, but he says it has nothing to do with that. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I left the negative cable disconnected overnight but unfortunately it didn't fix the problem. Symptoms: 1) After replacing the electric ignition switch, the driver's side door chime goes off when open (without the key in the ignition). 2. The remote control stopped working (I have re-programed it, but it won't work anymore). My mechanic says the problem is not related to the ignition switch, although it all started when it was replaced. I did notice though that he did not disconnected the battery negative cable when performing the switch replacement... I don't know if it has anything to do with it. Thanks again!

sorry so late, but i just did this. your mechanic knocked off a plastic cover when he pulled the switch. it's behind the cylinder, where the key goes in, it's a tiny yellowed box with a cover on the back. if the cover falls off, all your symptons happen. i knocked mine off today while replacing the steering column plastics, and figured it out quickly. you have to block the backside of that box, and you'll be good. if you don't see it happen, you will tear your hair out chasing ghosts. i grabbed a pic of a lancer steering column. the box is circled, it's behind the cylinder key lock. yours is missing the cover from the back of that box. it falls off easily if bumped.
