engine clatters after putting in all new valves and new timing belt, Mitsubishi Galant 2002

Asked by bug318 Oct 17, 2014 at 11:36 PM about the 2002 Mitsubishi Galant ES

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Timing belt broke and bent all the valve arms. Engine re-builder put in all new valves. Mechanic put it all back together. First time car was started there was and still is a clattering noise from the engine. The car runs fine but sounds terrible. What can be causing this noise? It sounds like metal on metal knocking.
