Battery and brake light on

What is causing the battery and brake light
on the dash to come on.

Check the computer for codes. Check the parking brake pedal is not partially engaged. Check battery voltage with a meter. Should be 13 - 13.4 volts with engine running (indicates the alternator is charging.
