Engine keeps stalling at stop signs and red lights.

Asked by chi3mperor Sep 03, 2012 at 12:56 AM about the 2001 Mitsubishi Galant ES

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my engine keeps stalling whenever i come to a stop. My mechanic told me it was the idle air control
valve. I bought one at Autozone and installed it myself. This problem is still happening. Any help would
be greatly appreciated.

I have a Mistubishi Galant that did the same thing a year ago and the mechanic adjusted the idle, now just recently it started doing it again, This time I got a tune up and he said he was running great, then I arrived to pick it up and it stalled after starting 3 times, He noticed a security light and asked me to try another car key, and then it stayed running, I had bought a non-factory key through a hardware store and had it programmed and now that specific key causing a sensor to shut the engine off. I still don't know if it is the key or a sensor problem, but food for thought for anyone out there.
