Car won't go into gear

Asked by Catt May 18, 2016 at 05:12 AM about the 2001 Mitsubishi Galant ES

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was riding down the highway and suddenly
My 2001 Mitsubishi galant 2.4l fell out of
gear. It fires right up and idles fine and when
i run through the gears the shifter still clicks
on each gear but the transmission won't go
in to gear and drive.

Could be a shifter cable, could be the shift fork-- I have a silly question, tho- is the car a manual trans? If so, you have a rare galant, most of them are automatics.

My Mitsubishi gallant won't go into 3rd gear unless I am at 40-45 or 65-70! I don't know why

You have a bad synchronizer, the gear box needs to be removed and repaired

That is a shifter cable engagement issue… underneath the vehicle there is a shifter cable attached to the transmissions shift lever- the fulcrum needs to lubed, the cable should be tightened.
