My mechanic recently bypassed the heater core because of a leak. Is there a way to still get hot air to the inside of the car without replacing the heater core?

I have a 1997 Ford Escort Lx Wagon.
To replace the heater core requires
about 7 hours of mechanic labor or
12ish hours of mine. The heater core
has already even bypassed due to a
leak. Now there will be no hot/warm
air flowing inside. Is there a way to
still get hot air inside without
replacing the heater core?

Good idea! I will go check it out right now. When you say install an auxiliary heater, are you talking about a heater within the engine compartment or a heater inside the car in the back? Either way, I will look up "auxiliary heater on ebay and see what turns up. Thanks.
