Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1989 B2200 starts and runs great but after 10 minutes the ignition cuts out and wants
to die. I thought it was a fuel problem so I changed out the fuel pump and filter but that
didn't help. Now I'm thinking maybe coil?

When it dies, can you still hear the fuel pump running? If not sure, have tools to do "next" with you when it dies. Next (do following quickly) raise hood, disconnect fuel line at filter inlet side, run pump. Fuel should spew from the fuel line. Assuming it will. If not check pump out. If so ---> If the fuel pump is good and you have no spark from the coil (replace the coil lead with a known good lead) lead to a grounded spark plug replace the coil, cheap fix, that does it, usually. If not the distributor ignition module with be next. It is under the pickup coil in the distributor. Pry the reluctor off gently (screw driver under opposite sides), remove two screws and two wires holding the module/pickup coil in place, lift them off the shaft. Gently pull the module out of pickup coil, reverse procedure to install, eyeballing the pickup coils location (not rubbing the shaft) as you tighten the two screws. If this has to be done, off course apply the "grease" that should come with the module to the bottom generously. Hopefully fixed, but the coil is probably going to fix it.

I put a push start kill switch on it. It was 5 dollars at auto zone.
