I looked on rockauto.com and they show both a timing belt and a timing chain kit for same engine 3.0l V6. Url below.

I see that, so what do you think? The sight I use every timing belt says its for the B2300 and the chains are for the B3000 & B4000... https://www.carid.com/1996-mazda-b-series-engine-parts/cloyes-engine-timing-set-21917609.html

I thought I would look because the 1st post about both and I use rockauto and then I saw both. Was like what. So I posted it. My first thought is chain and still is.
Well one could tell if it is a chain by looking at the timing cover. It would be completely enclosed, sealed, and the engines I look at are. A timing belt cover is not sealed shut.
Thank you gentlemen,a timing chain it is
Your engine is a push rod engine and has a timing chain.
