crazy downshift problem

O.K. guys its probly nothing but im freakin out cuz my eclpse is goin crazy i have a '96 eclipse base model and sometimes wen i'm getting off the highway at high rpm's it does a crazy gard downshift and the car nose dives and this last time it did it and it was like the car stayed at that gear cuz it was accelerating and decelerating superslow and wen i got it goin at around 30 mph it started whistleing but wen i got home i check the oild and tran fluid and listend for vacume leakes i it was fine good fluid levels and no leakes...the next day i took it for a short ride on city and highway and nuthing so if u got anything let me no...
its the 2.0L non-turbo chrysler engine with the 4 speed automatic trans mission

ok i think it might be getting stuck in overdrive but im not sure still open for advice or diagnoses
